Riley and I were playing in her kitchen yesterday and she was saying, "Opa!" in a very excited voice as she created her dish. Then when we were in a store, she was picking up various kitchen utensils and holding them up saying, "Opa!" Apparently it is a thing Roy says with them when they swim on Saturday afternoons.

We were talking about Leighton's school's Donuts with Dads and that last year there was Donuts with Divas but this year it is Muffins with Moms. He said, "They could have had muffins with males."

I was telling Leighton he would need to have some Ibuprofin for his fever and this conversation followed:
Leighton: It sounds like I am going to die.
Me: What? Why?
Leighton: Because I-B-profin sounds like I-V-profin. I-V.
Me: So why are you going to die from I-V?
Leighton: Ivy, mommy. You die if you touch it
Me: Oh! Poison ivy! Leighton it just makes you itchy - you do not die if you touch it!

Riley was in the kitchen with Roy talking about donuts, and she said, I want to get one for my Mommy. It was very cute.
Oct 4
Leighton was telling Roy about a show he was watching and mentioned, "The stinks or whatever it's called." I took a guess and asked, "Do you mean the Sphinx?" I seem to recall him calling it that another time as well!
Oct 6
Roy was talking to Leighton about the government shut down and mentioned NASA and the Space Center. Leighton said, "They had to shut down space?!"
Oct 6
We were on the way to go persimmon picking and I was describing to Leighton where we would turn and used the Tu BUi Quan AM Dao Trang Temple in my description. He said, "At those things for God?"
Oct 6
We saw some llamas that I pointed out to the kids. Leighton says, "Ugh. You want them to spit on you? Disgusting."
Oct 11
Riley and I were getting into the car and I was telling her to hurry so the mosquitoes didn't get her. She started asking why they bite us and during the conversation, she decided they wanted to bite her and get her blood because her blood was nice.
Week of Oct 14
Riley kept saying what I thought was 'dominoes'. I couldn't figure out why she was saying 'dominoes' before we were going places. A couple days later, it all made sense when she said, "dominoes, let's go!" and ran to the room we were heading to in the house. I realized she was saying, "Vominos!" Just like Dora ;)

Tonight Leighton asked me if I still am making milk since I don't have a baby any more. I told him that since Riley is no longer having my milk that my body doesn't make it. I even brought out the big guns and tried to do a quick explanation of 'supply and demand'. Roy chimed in with some discussion on hormones and the brain. Leighton took it all in and said, "So because she doesn't put her mouth there, your body knows not to make milk for there." That pretty much sums it up!
Oct 17
I was reading a book with the kids and they were acting out the what the animals were doing. When they had to slither like a snake, Leighton says, "I am going forward one nipple at a time!"
Oct 17
Leighton and Roy have a shirt from the Bronx Zoo that has a grizzly bear on a rock overlooking some water. Riley loves the shirt and always points out when Daddy is lounging about in his 'bear going to jump in the pool' shirt. Leighton was informing her tonight that the bear is on a rockberg because it is made out of rock and not ice like a polar bear would be on.

They have taken down a recently closed gas station near our house. It is at the intersection of one of the major highway feeder roads and another very busy road. The highway passes over it. Leighton and Riley keep asking what will be put there. Tonight he babbled on about it while we waited for the light to turn green ...
Leighton: Maybe they will put a park here with some benches
Me: I don't know that this is the most relaxing place for a park.
Leighton: But if it's nice weather, people could go sit there and even have their picture taken by their mom.
Me: By the 610?
Leighton: Yeah, it's a nice place to sit and look at the cars.
Me: You think people will want to sit in a park looking at all the cars?
Leighton: Well why not? They can sit and look at all the different colors of cars passing over.
Is he a city boy or what?!?!
Oct 18
We were having dinner and Riley was saying the order of our birthdays, and Roy was teasing her by saying it was his birthday again in the year. This is how the rest of it went:
Leighton: You can't be born twice.
Me: Well, some people claim to have been born again!
Roy: (snickers at his hilarious, witty, and genius wife)
Leighton: Well, if they go into those Pyramids then I guess they can get born again.
Oct 18
Sometimes Leighton calls Riley 'the baby' and depending on her mood she can adore it or be totally offended. Tonight, he said, "Hey, the baby is wearing Ariel underpants!" I held my breath waiting to see if she was going to freak out at him for calling her 'the baby' if she was in a 'big girl' mood. She gave a great reply though. She wiggled her little head like a baby and said, "Wah, wah, wah!" Roy was very impressed with her quick thinking and awarded her with a, "Good comeback!"
Oct 19
Leighton was opening his birthday gifts from his friends and there was a LEGO set that turns from a robot to a plane to a something else if you move the pieces around. Leighton asked, "So, is there a button?" Ha ha - no sweet child, you must manually make the different things!
Oct 20
We were driving in the car and saw a police car. Roy was teasing Riley that it was coming to get her for talking too much. Leighton told her she would do go to jail, and this did not please her. Roy tried to cheer her up by telling her that in jail you get to do a lot of crafts!
Oct 20
We were playing one of Leighton's new games and every time it was Riley's turn, she'd shout out, "I try my best!"
Oct 23
Today we saw a yard decorated like a graveyard for Halloween. Leighton asked if there were dead bodies buried there, and I explained it was just a Halloween decoration and not a real graveyard. He then said, "I won't be in a grave. I will be in one of those Pyramids. Because I am kind of a special person, right?"
Oct 26
After Leighton's soccer game today, Riley said, "Leighton you played awesome at your soccer today. I'm so impressed."
Oct 27
After talking NONstop for a good 20 minutes in the car, Riley stopped briefly and then asked, "Why is it so quiet?" Roy and I had a good laugh!
Oct 28
Me: You were a baby. You and Leighton were both babies. Remember we were looking at the pictures today of when you were a baby and when you were in my belly?
Riley: Yeah! Me in Mommy's belly and Leighton was in Daddy's belly!
Oct 31
Leighton keeps insisting on calling the Whoppers he gets while Trick or Treating 'whoopers' or 'hoopers' - it makes me giggle.
Oct 31
As we were out for Halloween, Riley kept looking up and the darkening sky with clouds saying, "ooh it's spooky." but she pronounces 'spooky' as 'pooky' so it's extra cute.
Yes Leighton, you are a special person. Who else would be so clever to come up with all the things you say. And Riley, no matter what Leighton says, you are a big, big girl. Good laughs, as always.
ReplyDeleteToo cute. They grow up so fast.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes they do.
Deleteopa! so many giggles! (opa! is a pretty common shout out here too :))
