I am no longer a neglectful mother!

Riley is still sleeping in her crib (why fix it if it's not broken, right?!!?), and so we've never bought her big duvet since during the previous winters, she's been small enough to fit under the small baby/toddler blankets. But she's bigger now!  I came across a crib-sized duvet that they had just taken out of a floor display at IKEA for $4 in the 'as is' section many months ago, but set it aside and forgot about it.  Until the weather chatter around town was that it was going to drop to close to freezing this past Wednesday night.  I suddenly realized my poor girl would be pretty cold without a blanket to fit over her properly!  I zipped out to get some fabric during a grocery run last weekend, washed it up, and quickly sewed a cover for the duvet on Wednesday.  I was finishing it up as the kids bathed, but I got it done in time to tuck her in (it really was a simple cover that didn't take much time - answering all Leighton's questions as I was rushing to thread the bobbin was more time consuming, I think!)!  She LOVES her new blanket (and I love that I don't need to feel like a neglectful mother letting my child freeze when we get our colder winter nights).  She loves that it's pink and has dots and is warm and fluffy.  So, the next day when she fell asleep in the car and napped on the couch for a while, I covered her up and took the rare opportunity to get a picture of her sleeping.

I also sewed the covers for the throw pillows that Riley is resting on, too!  But that was way back in the early spring …

And while we are on the topic of sewing, I made these dresses for Riley, too.  Well, I made the bottoms - the tops are tees and tanks from Old Navy that I attached the skirts to because I wanted to sew something pattern-free and simple for starting out.  I will attempt the tops of the dresses myself next time though!

I was going to sew Leighton some ties, but I didn't get to it yet, but my mom did - Yay Grandma!  I do have the fabric to sew a new seat for his doll stroller though.  Hoping to get to it on the weekend!

  4. Somehow when I read this post the first time, I missed the part about the dresses. They are great. It is a wonderful idea to use purchased shirts for the tops and just add the skirt part. Now that you have mentioned the neckties, you should post photos so I can see Leighton wearing them.
