Day 2 - Destin, FL road trip

Day 2 New Orleans to Mobile, AL to Destin, FL

We left New Orleans and quickly crossed the Mississippi state line.  I had read there was a marker off the highway of the high water line from Hurricane Katrina, so we took the exit to see. It's amazing to think how deep that water was.

Next we crossed the state line into Alabama and stopped for lunch in Mobile.  I had looked for restaurants to try ahead of time and an activity to maker stop in Alabama more 'substantial'!  We ended up walking the 'Oyster Trail' looking for some painted oysters - the kids always enjoy when cities have some sort of painted objects to take photos with!  We found several but many on the map weren't actually there anymore.

It was then time to get back in the car to head to Florida!

We tried to go see the boxing gym of Roy Jones Jr's father but when we drove by it was actually a very residential area and not like an actual gym with a sign that we could stand in front of for photos! We tried!  It was also getting dark and stormy, so it was good that we didn't have to get out of the car!

We left the clouds behind us and drove down the sunny Emerald Coast.

Our hotel was in Miramar Beach, which I am not 100% sure of all the technicalities, but it's and the very southern end of Destin and isn't really Destin and is a town of it's own.  Maybe?  I'm not sure.  Either way - the location was great!  Right at the beach but away from the busy Destin areas.  Our room looked out at the pool, and the kids instantly fell in love with the open atrium style of the hotel with the glass elevators.  It kept them entertained for hours!

After a swim and happy hour (and playing in the elevators!), we went to the grocery store nearby to get some lunch foods.  They kids were pleased to see they give out free cookies there just like at HEB back home!
