Roy didn't attend the conference on this day and came to the zoo with us instead! I couldn't wait to go to the zoo because I had been there when I was little and my grandparents lived super close walking distance. We also met Wolfgang and Rafael there. Wolfgang and Sandra lived in NYC when we did and Sandra was in Roy's lab. They've since moved back to Germany and had Rafael and this was our first time seeing them in years! Leighton loooooooved the Bison, we all loved the pandas, the lions were play fights and chasing each other around, and it was super cool to see the orangutans cross over our heads!
We walked for a slice of pizza at a place that someone in Roy's lab recommended from her time living in DC.
In the afternoon, the kids went for a swim.
Then we got ready to go with Roy to a work event that he was hosting. When it was over, we went for dinner (and Riley fell asleep!).
Total Walking: Hard to calculate! We walked around the zoo for a few hours, walked for pizza, and then walked from Roy's work event to dinner. The rest was all cabs (when it is 4 people it is cheaper in a cab than public transit)!

I might have to see if I have any photos of you at the zoo. You would have been very little.
ReplyDeleteReading these posts totally reminds me of visiting grandma and grandpa, their fancy colourful fountain and all the trips to the zoo (snowcones!). I also vividly remember a verrrry long escalator while visiting the US Mint and/or the DEP with grandpa (or perhaps it wasn't - I was just little and it seemed that way lol). Good memories (:
