Snow.
Yup. Snow!
A few weeks ago, the kids came out of school all excited because the rumor was that it was going to snow that night. I had heard it was getting colder and that there was moisture in the air, but I didn't think it would actually produce *real* snow. I told the kids that maybe, just maybe, we'd get little ice crystals falling like the time a few years ago.
But I was wrong!
At 7:49pm the radar showed snow just north and east of us, and I told Roy I was jealous. Still didn't think it would happen here.
At 10:16pm the radar showed snow 'in view' - for real!
So I checked the hourly forecast, and it was showing snow for a few hours!
We went outside, and sure enough, snow flakes were falling. Real, fat, plentiful snowflakes! We woke up the kids so they could see since we assumed it would stop shortly.
But I was wrong again!
At a little after 4am the phone rang. It was an automated call from the school district saying schools were open as normal despite the weather conditions. I was annoyed to be woken up that early for basically zero reason considering nothing would have been different if I would have woken up at the normal time. So I decided to look outside. O.M.G. I ran and told Roy and giggled at the vision of snow in Houston!
I couldn't sleep. Too excited! At 5:24 I checked the forecast and it showed it would still be snowing a little longer.
After the kids got ready in the morning, we took them out to play a little before they had to get in the car. They were so excited. So, so, SO excited!
Guess who wasn't excited? Roy. Cleaning snow off his car is not his idea of a good time. It's been a lovely 6 years without having to do that! 7 actually. It didn't snow at all the winter months we were still in NYC before we moved here.
And, yes - Leighton is in shorts. We try not to have battles with the kids over clothing. And he often wears shorts when it's cool in the morning, but by the time he's outside for PE or recess and running around playing sports, it's warmer and he hates being in long sleeves and pants for that. This day though? He probably should have worn pants, but it's not worth the eye rolling! I think I've decided that if it's below 50 he has to wear socks and have a hoodie and maybe pants depending on the forecast!
Riley's class got to go outside to play in the snow when she got to school. She got to build a snowman. She was the happiest girl.
Now we wait and see if it will be another 10 years until it snows here again!

Hard to believe it snowed in Houston before we had much here. But now we have you beat by about a foot and a half.
ReplyDeleteohhh I'm so happy that the snow was still on the ground by the time the kids woke up!
