We were getting the kids in the bath, and Riley was having one of her evenings when body parts were especially interesting and comical. So, Roy says to her, "Okay, frat boy, sit down so I can wash your hair." And she looks at him and says in the most serious tone, "Mine not boy. Mine girl. Daddy boy and Leighton boy. Mommy girl. Mine girl." This coming from the girl who insisted she was a boy like Leighton for a loooong time.

Today is the day. Riley has started asking "Why?" I have not heard the word out of her mouth until today. And now it isn't stopping. The floodgates have opened. Please help me.

Why no lady give us stools?

Up until this point, Riley has pronounced Leighton's name something similar to 'data' but today she has switched to 'Yayton' - he noticed it right away when we picked him up from school.

Today I was reminded of something Leighton says to Riley a lot. He obviously gets it from me. He will call her sweetie and honey and baby - sometimes using one or more of these terms of endearment in the same sentence. "No, honey, you do it like this, sweetie." or "Hi, baby sweetie girl. Do you want to have this, honey?"

I picked Riley up and turned around quickly and her foot bumped Roy's car. She said, "Sorry Daddy's car!" and wiggled out of my arms so she could give it a kiss.

As Roy and Riley flushed a cockroach down the toilet, he said "Bye, bye!" and Riley jumped in with "No like you!"

Riley has been using the word 'actually' a lot lately. Very funny.

The 'why' fest continues for Riley. It can get tiring! Today I asked her if she could please stop asking me 'why?' and guess what her answer was? Yup. You got it. "Why?"

Before we moved into our new house, we were here several days to meet with painters or to move things in or to clean leaves out of the pool. The house was completely empty at that time, and the kids loved running around. One game they started up was to run in circles in their bedrooms while shouting, "Superhero!" but Riley pronounces it, "Eepo Eepo!" Their rooms are no longer empty but they will still run around playing Eepo Eepo often. Now they usually wear their capes and other costume add-ons though.

Riley has become obsessed with mustaches lately. She pronounces it 'mus-mash.

Tonight before dinner, I was trying to keep the kids calm and out of Roy's way while he finished cooking, so I brought them to the TV room and we watched some family videos on my computer. We watched the ones of when Riley was just hours old trying to open her eyes and yawning and making cute baby noises. Then we watched the one from the next morning when Leighton came to meet her for the first time. When we were walking out for dinner, Leighton said, "That video of me seeing Riley for the first time almost made me cry because it was so cute." I told him I almost did too, but I also should have told him that hearing him say that had the same effect. Too sweet, that boy.

L: What do you want your name to be?
R: Mommy!
Me: Well, maybe one day your name can be Mommy.
L: Yeah, if you have a baby.
Me: That's right.
L: I wonder if my wife will have a baby. I wonder if we even know who my wife is.
Me: I don't know. Maybe. Maybe you haven't met her yet and maybe we already know her. We won't know until you are an adult.
And I am choked up too...
