G-OOO-AAA-LLL!!!

This morning Leighton had his last soccer game of the season.

At the beginning of the season, I was doubtful that the kids would end up doing much more than running around chasing the ball and forgetting what direction they were supposed to be going during the games, but they quickly proved me wrong.  They got better week by week, and, for the most part, really started to understand how to stick to their positions and to follow the ball and to not be scared to go after it.  It was very impressive to see the difference in their skill level and confidence.  This week (today and during our make up game on Thursday), the kids played so well.  Our team really came together and ended the season with three straight wins!

How great is this little girl's soccer outfit?!?!

And Leighton ended the season today with his very first goal!  We were so proud of him.  He was so excited!  I am not 100% sure, but I think Roy had to really restrain himself from jumping up and running around shouting "goooaaall" .... or more likely "Roooooooooooooney" like he used to back when we lived in England and Wayne Rooney was 'it' during the EuroCup .... ah, funny, funny memories!

We really lucked out with the weather all season and today was the first incredibly hot day.  We didn't remember our big sport umbrella (or sunscreen, but thanks to Kyla the kids got some slathered on before the game!) but Roy grabbed the rain umbrellas from the car and they provided ample and much needed shade while we watched.  I can't imagine how hot the kids were out there running around though!  When we got in the car to leave, the thermometer said it was 97 degrees.

After the game, we went to a nearby playground with the rest of the team for pizza and cupcakes.  It was a really nice time, but it was sad to have to say goodbye to the team after a really nice spring together.

Because we were out late for the soccer party, Riley missed her nap.  And because it was in the mid 90s, we were all super hot.  So today was THE day.  We took the cover off the pool and all went in.  ALL the way in.  Wahoo!!  The water is still a little chilly but a few more days of temperatures like this should take care of that.  I am still shocked it's taken til mid May to get to where it is though!  When the kids were too cold to swim more, they sat on the side to have some fruit pops we made yesterday.  Just straight up blended strawberries and mangos.  Simple and healthy and refreshing and tasty!

  1. Oh yay oh yay oh yay!! That is wonderful that Leighton scored a goal and enjoyed playing soccer so much. Dad and I laughed at Roy having to restrain his enthusiasm. The time will come when he can scream and yell. I remember yelling, "That's my daughter" when you scored a 3-pt basket in a game in Grand Forks. Parents are allowed to be proud.

And fantastic to finally be enjoying the pool. I hope the water warms up quickly. Fruit pops look good too!

    2. So exciting when our little ones score, isn't it? I was so proud of G the other night when he stopped three goals during his short stint as goalie during his soccer game.

  2. That is so exciting about soccer! We just went to our first dance recital and were amazed in a similar way.
