Last Saturday, we had the biggest rain storm what we've experienced in Houston yet. I can't believe how many hours it rained (along with continuous thunder and lighting, and apparently hail in some neighborhoods) and how much water (and leaves and branches and trees) came down ... and then up, up, up on the roads and in the bayou! The bayou was right at the very tip top and the roads around us were flooded (I got a couple short videos from inside the house - I will come back to post them soon, I promise!). We were very lucky that we had no damage. Some of our plants aren't very happy with the amount of wind and rain they had to endure and I had to clean up a bunch of fallen leaves, but only one larger branch fell off a tree in the middle of the yard where it could do no damage. We were very thankful that we had that rotting tree taken down in March!
Some people we know weren't as lucky. In the neighborhood where Leighton's current school is, friends of ours had water in their car and other friends had their carport collapse and a tree fall on their house. The principal at Leighton's school had so much damage to their house from flooding that they need to move into an apartment for about a month.
I went out to a movie with a friend that night and we drove through some pretty deep water. It really was pretty impressive. Once we got only two streets away, the roads were completely fine.
On Sunday, as I was picking up fallen leaves, I also took some time to dump out the water from many of the potted plants. So strange to take water OUT when usually I am trying to remember to go put water IN them!
Leighton requested to do some dehydrating inside as well - he really wanted Roy to pull out the dehydrator to make some fruit leather, so Roy and the kids went to the grocery store to get some fruit and then they got to work. As Roy chopped and blended, Leighton wrote out the recipe. So cute!
And here's what they came up with:
Very yummy!!!
those roll ups look delish!!
ReplyDeleteOoo...a dehyrater. Do you use it often?
ReplyDeleteNot as often as we should. Now that we have better space to store it and use it, I think we will use it more.
