The other day, I was searching every closet in the house (and this house has many!) for something I just couldn't find. Wait, is there a stronger word than searching? Or should I just add in 'desperately'? But that might indicate that my search was for something important that we actually needed. But it wasn't. I was trying to find 3 pairs of shoes I had purchased for Riley in the fall that I hadn't seen since we moved to the new house. We didn't need them. But for my sanity, I needed to find them! And I did. Phew. But not in the places I thought I would. They were tossed in the big blue IKEA bag of supplies we'd gathered to create our emergency kit should we ever need one. Apparently pink Crocs are now an emergency item. Who knew?
Anyway, during my search, I checked through a big box of outerwear in Riley's closet that I knew had items in larger sizes that I am holding onto for when we get to vacation somewhere cold and we need to keep Riley warm. I thought maybe the Crocs were tossed in there during the move, but the only footwear were Leighton's old snow boots. There was also a set of rain gear I had bought during a big sale because I couldn't resist the watermelon print. I think she was about 13 months old when I ordered it, but I chose a much bigger size so she could get more wear out of it. I had planned to pull it out in the fall because I knew the jacket would fit her then, but when looking at it all, I realized the boots were actually the size she is wearing now! I showed them to her and it was love at first sight. She wore the boots and jacket all over the house, and luckily, it was pouring rain, so she got to test them out when we went to story time at the library and to get Leighton from school. She wore the jacket at home the next day too (boots have been worn outside now, so they are no longer allowed to be worn inside!). She insisted she was soooooo cold and needed it (it was probably 85 degrees outside) the next day as well. There is a matching umbrella, too, but I didn't give it to her yet. She has a 'thing' for umbrellas and I didn't feel like spending the day policing the use of the new umbrella. I'll give it to her the next time we can go outside and we don't have a strict time frame to follow and we can let her get her fill of it!

Adorable! And I LOVE watermelon. We bought a whole one out of the first batch that arrived in the store a few weeks ago. We threw it out after one piece as it was less than tasty. The next week I selected a half piece already cut. It was double the price of a whole one, but I was afraid. The check out girl gave it to me for 66c after I told her we had to throw out a whole one. Last week we scored with a yummy whole one. When we shopped on Friday, they had run out but were expecting more the next day. Normally that would be too far to drive just for watermelon, but we ended up going to buy plants, so we have our weekly watermelon ready and waiting. And somewhere in our basement is , ahem, a lovely ceramic watermelon bowl that someone who will remain unnamed made before she got married.
