Ladies who lunch

It is kind of hard to believe, but even though Riley and I are on our own 5 days a week during the day, we rarely sit down together to have lunch.  Usually we are out and about and Riley has lunch in the car or stroller on the way home before her nap and I eat while she sleeps.  But, since we are full into underwear wearing these days, I chose to stick close to home a bit more last week so that Riley could have close access to a toilet at all times!  So, it was really fun to have the chance to sit down together last Tuesday to have lunch.

And it was even more fun because Riley was in the most amazing 'sure-I-will-try-that' mood instead of her usual 'no-like-it' mood when presented with something unfamiliar or messy.  And I had all sorts of new things to offer her because I had leftovers from the night before when Lindsey and Charlie came over to help us put up a wall of picture ledges and our growth chart (I will share photos of our decorating progress soon, I promise!) and we had some little snacks and drinks to keep our strength up (because, you know, it was really hard work for us all!).  Sorry to disappoint, but it was all store bought, so no new recipes to share (but I do have a slew of them I need to post soon!).

I started her off with things I knew she liked: plain ol' sharp cheddar cheese, leftover steamed green beans, some kielbasa, some of my apple, and maybe something else, but I don't remember!  I just remember the new things she asked to try and enjoyed!  The smoked gouda, the brie (oh, how Leighton used to love brie.  He'd go nuts for it.  And he'd beg for my rinds that I cut off!  Maybe he, too, will come around to wanting to try these things again just like his little sis!), the hummus, and even pita chips which for some reason she has declared she doesn't like the last umpteen times they've been offered to her.  She even devoured the dill Triscuits (a new obsession of mine - oh yum!  Thank you, USA, for finally coming around to the world of dill flavored chips and things.  This Canadian thanks you!), even though they were visibly NOT plain.

  1. Jeff loves the dill Triscuits, too... and while G loves dill pickle chips, S won't touch any of it.
