We started the day by walking around the football stadium.
And then we went to the zoo. It's free and has penguins, so we thought it would be a perfect place to spend a couple hours. Unfortunately, they didn't put the penguins out while we were there. BOO! But we still had a nice walk around and enjoyed the other animals, including the swimming polar bear and the camel and bison.
On the drive between Madison and Milwaukee, we stopped in Lake Mills for a wine tasting and lunch. The winery had olive oils and vinegars for tasting too, so the kids enjoyed that!
We got to Milwaukee with plenty of time left in the day but there was a game at the ball park going on, so we knew it would be too busy to stop there, so we attempted to go to the Miller Brewery, but we missed the last tour and tasting of the day. We went down to the beach we had seen on our very first day though because there was lots of sunshine left in the day! There were endless beach volleyball courts, beach bars, and loads of people. It was fun to touch Lake Michigan one more time - and Riley was pleased to be able to go right in and swim this time. We even had one last taste of frozen custard!
| a beach with beer and pina coladas?! yes please! |
After checking into our hotel out near the airport, we found some steak and pasta for dinner (coincidentally right next to Kopp's on Layton Ave where we had eaten the first day!) and then went back to the hotel to get our suitcases organized!
| One last selfie! I didn't feel nearly as tired as I look! |
When I used to go to the old Milwaukee County Stadium to see the Braves play baseball (yes Leighton, the Atlanta Braves were the Milwaukee Braves and before that the Boston Braves), we drove right through the Miller Brewery. I always thought it looked like a prison because there were bars on the tiny windows. The beach looks great.
