Before leaving the hotel parking lot, Leighton and Riley wanted few photos.
We spent a little time in the morning at Zingerman's Bakehouse and Candy Factory. When we got there, it was dry so we got photos with the giant chocolate and vanilla whisks outside. Soon it was POURING rain, so we didn't dash into the creamery, but Roy took a quick look at the coffee place. We watched them making candy and had several samples before buying a couple items and getting on the road.
We didn't make any stops until we got to Dearborn since it was so close! Our first stop there was to see where my Dad when to elementary and high school. The high school name had changed, and we saw the church of the same name as the elementary school, but I'm not sure yet if the school was part of that or if it's gone. It started raining so hard while we were there!
A few blocks away was my Dad's childhood home!
We had read about Detroit style square pizza, so for the 2nd day in a row, it was pizza for lunch!
We had hoped to spend some time at The Henry Ford in the afternoon. It was rainy, so it made it easy to choose the Museum of Innovation over Greenfield Village. I had really wanted to see the Rosa Parks Bus and a few other things I'd read about. The price was high to enter, but it was really worth it. SO much to see and so well done. The kids loved helping to put together a Model T! Since they were the last kids of the day to help put it together, they also got to sit in it!
We went for dinner at a Lebanese restaurant. The food was really good, but the servings were insanely huge! I wish we would have been there with 2 or 3 more people to help us eat it all since we had to leave it since we wouldn't have a chance to eat it again like we would at home.
OMG...The Oscar Mayer Wiener Wagon!!! Now that's a blast from the past. I'll post a comment from Dad when he has a chance to see the photos.
ReplyDeleteFor Dad: St. Alfred's has a new building. It was wood when I went there. I went there for the 4th-8th grades. Thanks for the photo of the house on Mayfair. It looks almost the same except for a big birch tree that was a small birch tree when I was a kid, and now it isn't there at all. It used to be the last house on that street.
