Summer vacation day 13: Ashtabula and Cleveland

When we started driving, it was POURING rain.  We had hoped to stop for some beach glass hunting and a little while at the lake again, but it was raining so hard.

Luckily, it seemed to slightly clear as we approached one of the beaches I had read would be good for beach glass - and a bonus that I had read that it's best to hunt after storms!  We managed to spend a good hour or so on the beach collecting rocks and sea glass and enjoying the quiet beach.

Snack time!  Chips made in Detroit that we had purchased when we were there! and some of the Jelly Belly jelly beans!
Cleveland wasn't too far of a drive, and we were lucky that they had our room ready early for us, so we checked in early and then set out to see the city.  The hourly forecast said no more rain.  Ha!  Should have brought the umbrellas!!  We got wet, but we still got to see what we wanted to see.

Touching the fountain of youth.  Don't worry, I went to touch it too after taking the photo!

The best sangria I have ever had.

That's the Browns' stadium behind Leighton.  His least favorite team - can you tell?!?!

Riley has a thing for windmills - so to see one she could stand right beside was pretty exciting!

we hid in the gift shop of the rock and roll hall of fame while waiting for a band of rain to pass!

can you spot all the dead floating fish in the water?!?

our hotel was gorgeous!

We had some snacks at the evening reception at the hotel, so we weren't hungry for a full dinner at the restaurant I had planned for.  Instead we went to this beautiful grocery store and had a picnic dinner in the room.

grocery store on the bottom and wine tasting and bar on the level up!

in front of the library!

  1. Cleveland sometimes gets a bad rap, but you found some great things to see and do in spite of the rain.
