10th week of summer

Monday was the big moving day!  The movers came in the morning and took the few pieces of furniture and mattresses we were keeping.  They also took some of the big heavy boxes of books (seriously .... how many books can Leighton have?!?!?!) and other things.

We were needing to empty the fridge and freezer, so Leighton got to eat the rest of a container of ice cream right out of the container FOR BREAKFAST!  Major mommy and daddy points right there!  Riley helped me clean out all my old jewelry that's just been in a basket for too many years.  She found a necklace she loved so I let her keep it but donated the rest.  I'm kind of glad she kept it since it's sentimental from when Pam and Carla came to visit in NYC many years ago, but I would never wear it - so this way I kid of got to keep it while being able to blame Riley for being a packrat and not me!!

one picture of the teeny tiny housecoat before I was allowed to donate it!

We did a lot of cleaning in the afternoon after the movers were done.  The kids did a lot of work, and after one last load to donations and to the new place, we decided we needed to eat out instead of trying to cook while we were so exhausted!

We did get some ice cream from Trader Joe's for dessert on the way home though.  And then Riley somehow found energy to start sweeping at the new place before bed!

It was a loooong day, but really fun!  And exciting to sleep in our new house!

On Tuesday, Riley and Leighton got up to all sorts of creative things while we unpacked and organized and cleaned a little at our new place.  We didn't have TV or Internet for a while, so they really had to entertain themselves!

In the evening we went to the Astros game.  Night two of not having to worry about making dinner!

Wednesday was another busy day.  Leighton had his middle school orientation in the morning.  He was in the same time slot as a few friends from elementary school and another friend from soccer.

In the afternoon, I took the kids for one last time swimming at the apartment and then we turned in our keys!  The kids made me take one last picture of them at the car parking spot, their bedroom, the door, etc, etc!

That night, The Meyers were meeting up with a group for dinner to say goodbye before their move to Salt Lake City the next day.  We had a fun dinner (night three we still hadn't eaten at the new house, if you're keeping track!) and then went to the Millers' so the kids could all play and swim together longer.

Thursday, Riley and I baked some banana bread to take with us on our trip the next day.  We also did more unpacking and organizing and cleaning.  I know we were trying to limit our grocery shopping before leaving town, but I'm blanking on whether we ate dinner at the house or if we ate out again!!!
