Summer Vacation Day 12 - Seaside and Astoria

We made the short drive from Cannon Beach to Seaside and found a fantastic parking spot for a couple of hours.  We wandered in the town and squished a penny, got coffee and donuts, and played a round of indoor mini golf (let it be known that Leighton was VERY impressed with my putting, and I even got the ball in the clown's nose at the last whole to win a free round or ride where we were!  Yay me!).  Then we played on the sand at the beach for a bit.  There were so many sand dollars.  It was amazing!  They were all alive though - no dried whole ones on the beach for us to take as a souvenir, unfortunately.

Leighton knew a lot about Lewis & Clark from school

If you look closely, there are many sand dollars all around her.

The Barbies always accompany us to the beach!  They've been to Jamaica and Florida and I can't even remember where else!

We went for lunch at a little Mexican restaurant.  I had read a review about the prickly pear margarita, so I had to have one!  Roy was pretty pleased with his ice cold Corona in his ice cold glass.

Astoria wasn't a very far drive from Seaside, and that was our final stop on the coast!  We went to the Astoria Column to walk up the 164 steps and sail a glider off of it.  You can see Washington State across the bridge from up there, which is pretty fun!

We checked into our hotel and decided that we were too lazy to drive down into town and find parking to go to the brewery I had originally planned for dinner.  So we never actually drove through or saw the town of Astoria!  Oops!  There was a brewery (Rogue - same one as we skipped in Newport!) right by the hotel on the pier across the wooden bridge, so we walked there instead!  It was a great decision.  The food was great.

When we got back from dinner, Leighton and I went up to the room while Riley did some cartwheels on the grass.  You can see her and the brewery in this picture I took from the window in our room!

Riley really wanted to swim, so I took her down to the pool.  She very quickly made friends with another 8 year old girl who was there.  She didn't want to get out but I dragger her upstairs a little after 10!
